Around 4 000 students across all four faculties graduated at the recent semester one graduation ceremonies, being awarded everything from academic prizes, bachelor degrees, Alfred Deakin Medals and doctorates.
Twelve ceremonies were held during April at Costa Hall, Geelong Waterfront Campus, Warrnambool Performing Arts Centre and the Melbourne Convention Centre, giving Deakin graduates the chance to celebrate their achievements with family, friends and academic colleagues.

The graduation ceremonies were also an opportunity to present awards to outstanding students, including the prestigious Alfred Deakin Medals that are awarded to ten graduates each year with a record of outstanding academic achievement and service to the community. Semester one award winners were:

The latest class of graduates join over 113 000 Deakin Alumni who have graduated since the University commenced operation in 1977. A further 3500 students are expected to graduate during semester two.

Deakin University has held its first-ever presentation ceremony in the Middle East with 17 students graduating with a Master of Education award, on 15 April in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The inaugural ceremony was held at the Abu Dhabi Women’s College and guests included the Australian ambassador to the UAE Jeremy Bruer, Deakin’s Associate Professor Hilde Lovegrove and Associate Professor Ian Robottom.
Associate Professor Robottom presented the awards and commended the graduates, especially the Emirati national female students, on successfully balancing their family, work and study commitments while achieving outstanding results.
Launched in Abu Dhabi in 2005, the course is offered in collaboration with the Higher Colleges of Technology and aims to meet the needs of a new generation of qualified Emiratis, as well as expatriate teachers in the UAE.
Staff from the Faculty of Arts and Education provide a series a study intensives in the UAE and students are supported by Deakin’s distance education resources and support as well as local tutorial and infrastructural support.
