The Geelong Teachers College commencing class of 1958 is to hold a weekend reunion in February 2008 to recognise 50 years since the intake of the class. The event will be held on 24 February 2008 at the Royal Geelong Yacht Club. Organisers are looking to contact as many 1958 class members and staff as possible to invite to the event. With more than 120 classmates and staff members expected to attend, the weekend promises to revive many great memories for attendees and will give classmates the chance to catch up in some cases for the first time in years with only two previous ’58 class reunions held over the last 10 years. The Geelong Teacher College had a long history as an education institution dating back to 1950 with hundreds of teachers being trained at the Vines Road complex over the years. The College underwent several transformations, including becoming part of the State Colleges of Victoria in 1973 and it was eventually subsumed into Deakin University when it commenced operation in 1977. The site is currently home to a community centre. For enquiries and expressions of interest email reunion coordinators Ms Ferri Bond at ferribond@sunet.com.au or Mr Ian Gribble on igribble@pipeline.com.au. |

PE course turns 30With nearly 100 Alumni, educators, leaders and key stakeholders in the physical education field expected to be on hand to celebrate the 30 year anniversary, the night promises to revive many great memories. “This promises to be a great night and we want to get as many Alumni along as possible to help celebrate. It will be a great opportunity for our members to catch up and relive old times over a few drinks – numbers are limited so our graduates will need to get in quick as the RSVP rate has been high.” a Faculty spokesperson said. Commencing in 1977 when the University first opened its doors, the course has graduated thousands of students over the years and is currently taught at the Melbourne Campus at Burwood at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. The Faculty is extending an invitation to all PE graduates and staff to attend. Guests will include AFL legend, Deakin academic and Alumni member Mr David Parkin. For further information and bookings contact reunion coordinator Dr Kathryn Meldrum on +613 (03) 9244 6886 or email kathryn.meldrum@deakin.edu.au. |
