The Faculty of Arts and Education offers many programs in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Education across disciplines that are vital to making Australia an equitable, humane and innovative society. Our programs are focused in the fields of Communication and Media; Society and Politics; International Studies, Performing and Creative Arts and Education.
We aim to give students, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, an intellectually exciting education, anchored in core disciplines, and developing the professional and vocational skills that are essential in the workplace of the 21st century. Students engage with lecturers whose research continually informs the teaching and learning environment. Students are also given many opportunities to undertake work placements and internships and to experience international exchange. The opportunity to 'learn where you live' means that our students are enrolled not only in all areas of Victoria, but also across Australia and Internationally. Programs can be taken on campus in Melbourne (Burwood), Geelong and in Warrnambool, or off campus anywhere in Australia or the world.
School education is the largest sector for which our Education courses are designed, with pre-service and in-service courses provided for primary and secondary teaching. The Faculty offers a comprehensive range of major and minor secondary curriculum areas. At the graduate and in-service level the Faculty also offers professional development programs for those involved in TAFE and other VET provision, workplace learning and training, community and adult education as well as higher education.
The Faculty has a long-standing reputation for excellence in distance education, now enhanced by online delivery. Flexible delivery is particularly relevant to our postgraduate coursework programs which offer professional education at a time and location of the students' choosing.
