Grants

Rural Grants

The Faculty of Business and Law has established a new grant scheme to assist rural students commencing an undergraduate degree in commerce, law or management. The cash grant of $A2000 at the pro rata rate of $A250 per unit of study will be awarded, on the basis of academic merit, to the top 50 students enrolling for the first time on the Warrnambool Campus in 2008.

To be eligible students must be from 'rural areas' enrolling in one of the Faculty's courses on the Warrnambool Campus. Rural areas are those within VTAC SEAS Category 6: rural or isolated applicants, which includes Warrnambool and towns in Western Victoria and South-Eastern South Australia, as well as the surrounding countryside.

Students applying for a rural grant must complete a VTAC SEAS application form and course applications must be made through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre - VTAC. .

Scholarships

Alfred Deakin Scholarships in Law

The Alfred Deakin Scholarships in Law were introduced in 2001, the year of celebrations for the centenary of Australian federation. Alfred Deakin, after whom the University is named, was not only Australia's second Prime Minister but also our first Attorney General. Most appropriately, a small number of these new scholarships will be awarded to the highest scoring students admitted to the Bachelor of Laws, as a single degree or combined with another degree - the BA/LLB, BA(International Studies)/LLB, BCom/LLB and BSc/LLB. These scholarships provide up to $2000 per year for four years of an LLB or five years of a combined law degree and the support of an academic mentor from the Law School.

Dean's Scholars Program, Melbourne

The Dean's Scholars Program at the Melbourne campus at Burwood provides access to all the flexibility of the BCom degree with a scholarship of $2000 each year, awarded at the pro rata rate of $A250 per unit of study, for three years (the Scholarship will be extended by one year for students who enrol in Honours) and an academic mentor to guide each Scholar. A small number of places with scholarship are available in this program to students with high ENTER scores. In 2001, the first year offered, the 'clearly in' ENTER score was 94.15. Students apply through a separate VTAC entry for Commerce DeanĚs Scholars Program, and, of course, the general entry to the BCom at Melbourne is also available.

Commerce scholarships, Geelong and Warrnambool

Dean's scholarships are also offered in the Bachelor of Commerce at the Geelong campus at Waurn Ponds and the Warrnambool campus. These scholarships are similar to those at Melbourne, providing $2000 per year, awarded at the pro rata rate of $A250 per unit of study, for three years and individual academic mentors. The scholarships will be awarded to students with the highest ENTER score on each of the two campuses who are admitted to the Commerce degree through the normal BCom VTAC entry for those campuses.
