Faculty Research Groups

Theoretical and Applied Economics Research

The TAER group gathers together colleagues from across the whole of the University working under the broad umbrella of theoretical and applied economics. The core value of the group is to provide a vibrant culture of research. Pooling economists from around the university provides the required critical mass of researchers working within a broad but well-defined field. The group provides a stage and platform for stimulating research quality and outreach activities. The group provides a stimulating environment via an extremely active seminar series in addition to a nurturing environment for both junior colleagues and higher degree research students.

The Research Group already has numerous national and international links, including Honorary Professors from Europe, the USA, in addition to Australia. The group has a well-established Working Paper Series, with global access via the web. The group aims to extend its outreach activities by an active campaign to forge links with other Economic research groups both within Australia and overseas. The group also aims to aid and encourage competitive grant bids, attracting both internal and external research funds.

This is a broad research grouping, with research interests across a wide spectrum of both theoretical and applied economics. The research group is homogeneous in that it shares a common theoretical framework based on the principles of economic analysis, but rather heterogeneous in the application of these principles to a wide array of policy relevant topics. Staff are involved in the following areas of economics: Environmental resource management, Health Economics, Labour Economics, Economics History, Economics of Law, Political Economy, International Economics, Development Economics and Finance. Most staff are involved in a range of projects involving one or more of the above areas.
