Migration agents are professionals who are registered to provide immigration advice and assistance. Like a tax agent who helps with income tax returns, migration agents assist with visa applications. People employ migration agents for a variety of reasons. A major reason is to ensure that their visa application is handled correctly. Migration agents are bound by a Code of Conduct in any work they do for you, and you may ask the agent for a copy of the Code if you wish.
As with any professional service, you may want to shop around if you are interested in using a migration agent. You can contact the Migration Institute of Australia (MIA) for a listing of agents who belong to that professional association.
