Fees and charges

Medical consultations

Billing

Campus Doctors bill via the Australian Medicare or Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) systems. Bulk billing is available and students are currently 100% covered when seeing a doctor at Deakin Health Service, provided they have current health cover.

Doctors at the Burwood and Waurn Ponds campus direct bill (meaning students do not have to submit a claim form or pay extra 'gap' costs) the following OSHC funds

Please note: Deakin Health Service does not have a direct billing arrangement with Australian Health Management OSHC so students are required to pay the doctor's bill on the day of appointment and claim back as advised.

Current health cover

All students who attend the Health Service must have current and valid Medicare or Overseas student health cover when seeing a campus doctor or nurse. In addition please inform reception staff and the campus doctor or nurse if you have a current and valid health care card.

Payment on day of appointment

Payment is required at the time of appointment in the following circumstances:

Please note - Deakin University Health Service does not set or control fees or charges for other doctors, health care facilities or professionals or for procedures including blood tests and x-rays.

Scandinavian students health cover

Norwegian students are covered by the Norwegian National Insurance Scheme, whilst Swedish student are covered by either CSN (Swedish National Board of Student Aid) or by Kammarkollegiet. If you are an exchange student for part of your study, you can only be covered by Kammarkollegiet. If you are a Swedish or Norwegian student you may choose to use OSHC instead of your national scheme.

Please note- Norwegian and Swedish students are required to PAY IN FULL at the time of service medical consultations and associated treatments. Claiming back of medical expenses incurred in Australia needs to be undertaken upon return home within 6 months.
