Emergencies

Medical emergency

If your require first aid on campus contact Security by dialling 222 ( internal phones only) or 1800 062 579 (mobile phone).

If you are seriously ill or injured call an ambulance on 000 or 112 (some mobile networks) and ask for the ambulance service. This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Answer all questions asked by the ambulance operator and do not hang up until told to.


Helplines (24 hours, 7 days a week)

If it is outside working hours, and you are in a crisis and need to speak to someone immediately, you can call one of the following helplines. The 1800 numbers can be used from anywhere in Australia. The organizations do not have any association with Deakin University and we cannot guarantee their value to you.

Restroom (sickbay)

A restroom is available for student and staff use on the Warrnambool, Waurn Ponds, Waterfront and Burwood campuses. Students registered with the DRC (Disability Resource Centre) are welcome to use the facilities unless the room is required for a medical emergency.

After Hours

Some medical clinics open into the early hours of the evening and limited hours on weekends. See M for medical practitioners in the Yellow pages.

The Australian hospital system consists of both public and private hospitals. 24 hour accident and emergency treatment is available from public and some private hospitals.

City hospitals can be located under H in the in the Yellow pages or Department of Human Services Victoria website.
Country hospitals can also located under H in the local telephone directory or Department of Human Services Victoria website.

 


Home visits

Home visits and locum services are not currently available from Deakin Medical Centres.
