Exams are held at the end of each Semester, with a Supplementary/Special Exam period in August. (See Important dates for re-enrolling students for full details). You can also refer to the Deakin University Handbook, Important Dates and the Exam Timetable Release Schedule. Students must be available to sit an exam at any time within these published dates. You can also use StudentConnect to view your personal exam timetable.
On-campus students must sit at the campus of Unit enrolment. On-campus exams are conducted at the Burwood, Waurn Ponds and Warrnambool campuses. Check StudentConnect (open new window) for the campus and venue details.
Off-campus exams are generally conducted at Waurn Ponds and Warrnambool campuses. Other Off-campus venues are also available.
It is the responsibility of the student, at the beginning of each semester, to ensure their enrolment, personal and exam location details are up-to-date, and to inform the University of any changes before the specified deadlines.
A change in address details does not automatically change an exam location.
Requests for a change of venue are to be lodged with the Division of Student Administration at least 4 weeks prior to the commencement of the exam period. Contact External Assessments via email ext-exam@deakin.edu.au or by phone (613) 5227 2177. Allow 7 days for your change of venue to appear on StudentConnect and recheck your details, including the starting time as this may differ to your previous venue.

A letter will be sent out from Division of Student Administration explaining the process and requirements for exam clashes. Students will be required to sit their exams in the clash room where they will be under supervision for the entire day, sitting one exam in the morning and the other in the afternoon. Please note that students will be required to remain under supervision during their lunch break. If a letter has not been received at least 4 weeks prior to the exam period stating that there is a clash, please contact the Assessments Office via email assess-on@deakin.edu.au to ensure arrangements are made to sit under clash conditions.
A letter will be forwarded to off-campus candidates with a clash exam. Off-campus candidates will also receive a copy of a Deakin University Student Declaration Form. Students must take the Student Declaration Form to their relevant clash exam. The form must be completed and signed in the presence of the supervisor (the supervisor will witness the form and return it to the University with the completed exam paper). Any queries relating to clash sessions at off-campus locations should be directed to ext-exam@deakin.edu.au.
Students are advised to contact their Unit Chair or apply for Special Consideration within 72 hours of the exam. Please note that Special Consideration applications are subject to approval. Holiday, or other non-urgent travel, or misreading the exam timetable are not acceptable in the Special Consideration process.
Students who arrive late for an exam should report to the supervisor upon arrival.
The only items permitted are a Deakin Student ID Card, or other appropriate photo identification, pens, pencils, and an eraser must be carried in a clear plastic bag. Some exams allow calculators (see unit guide). In the case of an open book exam, students may bring any written reference material into the exam room.
The only personal belongings permitted in the exam room are purses/wallets, keys and a mobile phone. Mobile phones must be switched off and placed face up under the student’s desk. All other personal belongings, including pencil cases and bags, must be stored in the designated area before entering the exam room.
Bags, pencil cases, notes or any other reading materials are not permitted. The only exception is for exams approved as open book, where written reference material is permitted. Electronic dictionaries are not permitted in any exam.
If there are special needs required to sit exams, contact should be made with Student Life (open new window) at the home campus to make appropriate arrangements at the start of semester, or in special/exceptional circumstances by two weeks prior to exams. Contact details are: Burwood (613) 9244 6300; Geelong (613) 5227 1223; and Warrnambool (613) 5563 3256.
