Most activities involving a relationship between Deakin University and an external party will require a formal agreement setting out the terms and conditions of the arrangement agreed between the parties. Sometimes this may be constituted by just an exchange of letters.
The University's Contract Policy requires that all contracts and agreements be reviewed by the Solicitor's Office, except where a standard form contract prepared by the Solicitor's Office is used without amendment of any of the conditions.
The Solicitor's Office is available to advise on any and all agreements within the University, including in respect of the negotiation of the terms of the agreement and any disputes arising out of existing agreements.
To assist us in drafting or reviewing agreements, a form setting out the basic information we require is available to download from the Resources page.
The Contracts Assessment Subcommittee reviews all contracts with a value in excess of $300,000. The Contract Sponsor is responsible for compliance with the Operating Procedure set out in the Subcommittee's Terms of Reference and must complete and submit the Contract Submission Form, available on the Resources Page (user authentication required) to the Subcommittee.
Unless requested by the Subcommittee, it is not necessary to submit a copy of the contract with the Contract Submission Form.
Details of meetings of the Subcommittee and agenda requirements may be obtained by contacting the Office of the Chief Operating Officer.
