Freedom of Information

Deakin University makes information about its operations available to the public through its website and its publications. Information which is not publicly available may be accessible under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Vic) (the “FOI Act”) which provides a right of public access to documents held by the Government of Victoria and its agencies. Deakin University is an agency for the purposes of the FOI Act.

Any person, including members of the public, may apply for access to a document held by the University. ‘Documents’ are not restricted to written formats. Access may be given in the form of photocopies or transcriptions, or by giving an opportunity to inspect or listen to the document. Access to a document may be denied if it is exempt from disclosure under the FOI Act.

Persons wishing to request access should write to:

The Manager
Freedom of Information
Office of the Chief Operating Officer

The request must provide sufficient detail to identify the documents to which access is sought and should be accompanied by the application fee of $22.70 unless an application is being made to waive the fee. The Request for Access Form (98 KB) may be used.

Further information on Freedom of Information is available at Freedom of Information Online , a website of the State of Victoria.
