The University’s obligations in relation to information privacy are contained in the Information Privacy Act 2000 (Vic.) and the Health Records Act 2001 (Vic.).

The Privacy Officer reports to the Head, University Governance Unit and—
• provides advice to staff in relation to privacy issues
• responds to enquiries made to the University on privacy matters
• maintains awareness of privacy issues within the University
• investigates and responds to any complaints made to the University about
alleged privacy breaches.
Requests by individuals for access to their own personal information held by the University are managed under the Freedom of Information Act 1982. Initial enquiries about freedom of information may be directed to the University Solicitor’s Office
Requests from the police and other law enforcement agencies for personal information held by the University should be directed to the Privacy Officer.
