Chief Financial Officer
Deakin University is one of Victoria's larger universities, with a total budgeted income of $434 million, and more than 2,000 staff and 32,000 students at campuses
in Melbourne, Geelong and Warrnambool and in off campus education.
Andrew Walters is the Chief Financial Officer for Deakin University. He takes responsibility for:-
- The financial operations of the University delivered primarily through the Financial and Business Services Division;
- Risk Management and the University's Insurance portfolio, and
- He represents the University in its capacity as a shareholder in a number of associated entities.
The following functions come under the control of the Chief Financial Officer:-
- Financial Reporting for Finance and Business Affairs Committee
- Negotiate for the provision of banking services for the University
- Provision of financial advice to senior University officers and Committees
- Organisational Chart as at 14 October 2008
The vision for the Financial and Business Services Division (FBSD) is to develop a centrally led, decentralised finance and business function that provides leadership and support to the University while maintaining independence to ensure appropriate fiscal and operating governance oversight.
FBSD will enhance the financial and risk management of Deakin, focusing on the three tenets of:
- Control and oversight
- Support and leadership
- Central information repository and advice as delivered through six teams
- Financial Performance and Analysis
- Financial Control
- Transaction Management
- Value Management
- Strategy, Risk and Insurance
- Financial Transformation (in particular, the Financial Management Improvement Project)
