Industry learning
Deakin University has strong partnerships with industry, involving collaborative activities with government bodies, public and
private organisations, and other universities. These partnerships ensure that our courses remain relevant to industry and students
learn from lecturers with specialist skills developed by their work with outside agencies, their research and community
involvement. In addition, many courses have internship or work experience programs which will help you to apply your knowledge
while you study. Completing a business internship gains you credit towards your degree but does not extend the length of your
studies.
Undergraduates can apply for the Business Internship Program, and postgraduate students have access to programs through the Deakin Business School such as the Business Practicum Program and the Postgraduate Internship.
Within the Master of Business Administration programs, students can choose to undertake some units in the style of five-day intensive, live-in units as part of the MBA residential learning program. These are held at the Deakin Management Centre within the grounds of Deakin's Geelong Campus at Waurn Ponds.
Professional recognition
Depending on the selection of units, graduates can satisfy the educational requirements for membership or associate membership
of a number of professional associations. These include the Australian Computer Society, Australian Institute of Management, CPA Australia, Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, Australian Economic Institute, Financial Planning Association,
Australian Human Resources Institute, Australian Marketing Institute, Australian Market and Social Research Society, and the
Australian Institute of Credit Management.
Scholarships
The Faculty of Business and Law offers various scholarships. The Dean's Scholars Program is an elite scholarship intake for a small number of highly capable, motivated students to the Bachelor of Commerce at the
Melbourne Campus at Burwood. Dean's scholarships are also offered in the Bachelor of Commerce at the Geelong Campus at Waurn Ponds and the Warrnambool Campus. Participants take full advantage of the extraordinary flexibility and relevance of the Bachelor of
Commerce and will have the opportunity to graduate with a distinguished degree in the shortest possible time.
The Faculty also offers one year bursaries for new full-tuition international students and a rural grants scheme to assist rural students commencing an undergraduate degree in commerce, law or management.
