We keep a close eye on the engineering industry to ensure our courses are relevant and responsive to the needs of employers. Our curriculum is informed by industry leaders including Ford, Shell, Alcoa, Barwon Water, AGB and Telstra who sit on the academic advisory board. Our courses are also fully accredited by Engineers Australia, which gives Deakin’s engineering degrees international recognition.
Deakin’s Bachelor of Engineering is particularly distinctive in that all of the available streams are available in both on and off-campus mode.
Our undergraduate engineering courses provide specialisations in civil, engineering, electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, and mechatronic and robotic engineering. The Engineering Scholars Program enables high-achieving students to study civil, electronics, mechanical or mechatronics and robotics engineering sequences with extra opportunities for paid industry internships or research placements and access to an assigned mentor that are not available in other engineering courses.
Our postgraduate courses range in level from Graduate Certificate to Masters and offer maximum flexibility for busy professionals. Water Resources Management is an additional study area at postgraduate level.

Innovative research
Innovative engineering research at Deakin’s Geelong Technology Precinct (GTP) will give you a further advantage by offering the opportunity to learn from world-standard researchers. The GTP integrates high-level research capabilities with specialised research equipment and industrial scale infrastructure and students have the opportunity to carry out final year engineering projects with leading researchers in the GTP.
Industry learning
The Faculty of Science and Technology at Deakin offers many opportunities for students to experience the workplace throughout their course of study. You may choose subjects which take you into the field, place you in industry or offer an internship. Industry Based Learning (IBL) involves working full or part time in industry as part of your degree program and plays a valuable role in preparing for graduate employment. The placement is incorporated into a unit of study and credited towards your degree, and provides the opportunity to apply and consolidate knowledge gained at university, experience workplace culture and work practices, explore career options and develop a professional network.
Professional recognition
Graduates of the Bachelor of Engineering are eligible to qualify as professional engineers and become members of Engineers, Australia.
