In the School of Life and Environmental Sciences we take pride in the quality of our teaching; the quality of our courses, which are designed to enthuse students; and the quality of our graduates, who are in demand by employers.
At an undergraduate level we offer the Bachelor of Biological Science as well as the Bachelor of Environmental Science, in which you can specialise in environmental management, freshwater biology and management, marine biology or wildlife and conservation biology. The Bachelor of Teaching (Science)/Bachelor of Science prepares you for a career in teaching science.
Studies in occupational hygiene and water resource management are covered at a postgraduate level, as are studies in environmental management.

Hands on experience
All of our environment courses feature an emphasis on fieldwork, from day trips to summer schools. At the Warrnambool Campus, you will have easy access to rivers, estuaries and the ocean. Similarly, as a student at the Melbourne Campus at Burwood you are in reach of the ecosystems of the Dandenongs and management agencies. Facilities that support teaching and research include a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) lab, wildlife tracking technology, a small fleet of boats and an underwater vehicle.
Industry partnerships
Deakin students are offered many opportunities to experience the workplace throughout their course of study. We aim to produce high calibre graduates who are employable and have a broad understanding of the career opportunities available in their chosen field.
Industry Based Learning (IBL) involves working full or part time in industry as part of your degree program and plays a valuable role in preparing for graduate employment. The placement is incorporated into a unit of study and credited towards your degree. You will be given an opportunity to apply and consolidate knowledge gained at university, experience workplace culture and work practices, explore career options and develop a professional network.
Overseas study
