Psychology at Deakin

Deakin’s undergraduate and postgraduate programs in psychology are cutting edge, both in terms of the contemporary curriculum and in how we use the most up-to-date teaching and learning technologies to provide our students with a range of flexible learning experiences.

Studying psychology at Deakin will provide you with a strong foundation in areas such as: the assessment of personality and cognitive abilities, the factors that underpin successful interpersonal relationships and group processes, and the major determinants of individual and social mental health and wellbeing.

Whether you complete a basic degree in psychology, or go on to postgraduate training, you will find that you have a knowledge-base and skill-set that will help you uncover an array of stimulating employment options.

We offer courses across all four campuses or alternatively, students can complete the entire undergraduate program in off-campus mode. All of our courses are accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council and also meet the requirements of the Psychologists Registration Board of Victoria.

Our courses

Our Bachelor of Applied Science (Psychology), Bachelor of Psychology and Bachelor of Health Sciences with the recognised psychology major sequence degrees, offer a pathway to further studies in psychology, but a major in psychology can also be incorporated into other awards (e.g. arts, commerce, environmental science, health sciences). The Bachelor of Applied Science (or Graduate Diploma of Psychological Studies, or major in another award) can lead to a fourth year degree – either Honours or the Graduate Diploma of Psychology, and these, in turn, lead to a masters or doctoral degree.

We currently offer three masters courses: Master of Psychology (Industrial and Organisational), Master of Psychology (Clinical) and the Master of Psychology (Professional Practice). In addition, we offer the Doctor of Psychology (Clinical), Doctor of Psychology (Health) and the Doctor of Psychology (Forensic). Alternatively students may decide to study higher degrees by research with a Master or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). The opportunities are many, the choice is yours.
