Melbourne Institute of Business and Technology (MIBT)

MIBT studentsThe Melbourne Institute of Business and Technology (MIBT) offers an excellent pathway to Deakin for students who do not meet the admission requirements for Deakin University’s courses or who need to bridge the gap between previous study and university.

Located on Deakin University’s Melbourne Campus at Burwood, MIBT provides a direct pathway to Deakin University in the areas of business/commerce, computing/information technology and mass communication. Students who do not meet the admission requirements for Deakin University may be offered a place at Melbourne Institute of Business and Technology (MIBT).

MIBT diplomas are equivalent to the first year of the Deakin University undergraduate degree. On satisfactory completion of a MIBT diploma and subject to meeting University academic entrance criteria, MIBT graduates are guaranteed entry to second year at Deakin University.

Holmesglen Institute of TAFE

Students in classIf you wish to study a Bachelor of Commerce at Deakin but do not meet the admission requirements, you may consider undertaking an Advanced Diploma of Accounting (degree stream) at the Holmesglen Institute of TAFE.

In this program, you’ll study units from Deakin’s Bachelor of Commerce in your first year and be assessed in these units. If you complete the first year of the Advanced Diploma at Holmesglen at a satisfactory level you can then enter the Deakin Bachelor of Commerce with appropriate credit for the Deakin units completed.

Students wishing to undertake Nursing studies at Deakin who do not meet the entry requirements may complete the Certificate IV in Health (Nursing) at Holmesglen and receive advanced standing into Deakin’s Bachelor of Nursing (subject to meeting certain conditions).

TAFE pathways

A number of other TAFE institutes also offer alternative pathways to entry at Deakin. By successfully completing a diploma/advanced diploma program at a number of TAFE institutes—including Box Hill Institute of TAFE, Kangan Batman Institute of TAFE, Chisholm Institute of TAFE, Gordon Institute of TAFE, South-East Institute of TAFE and South-West Institute of TAFE—you may be offered a place in the second year of the Bachelor of Commerce or in another relevant undergraduate degree program at Deakin.

You may also choose to study the Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management or Tourism Management at the South-West Institute of TAFE concurrently with Deakin's Bachelor of Management at the Warrnambool Campus.
