Visas

In order to commence your course at Deakin as an on-campus student, you must apply for a student visa that will allow you to come to Australia. As part of your student visa conditions, you must have continuous Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the duration of your stay in Australia.

Below is an outline of some of the main issues and conditions associated with your student visa.

Applying for a student visa

Student visas can take from one to twelve weeks to be issued. Conditions vary from country to country and in some countries a pre-visa assessment (PVA) is required.

Application forms for applying for a student visa are available from overseas Australian Diplomatic Missions and the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC), or through any of our overseas representatives. It is important that you check the application criteria for your country first before submitting an application.

You should apply for a student visa as soon as possible once you have received your electronic Confirmation of Enrolment Form (eCOE), as the eCOE is only valid for 8 weeks. In order to apply for a student visa, you are required to
