The goal of the Deakin Foundation is to increase the momentum of Deakin University’s fundraising efforts by enlisting the participation and guidance of leading philanthropists.
The Foundation aims to:
Three initial priority areas have been identified for which funds will be sought:
The health and medical projects priority area is directed at the work of the Faculty of Health, Medicine, Nursing and Behavioural Sciences and, particularly, the Deakin Medical School, including funding for clinical skills teaching laboratories, the development and expansion of research programs, particularly diabetes research, and a program of fellowships.
Projects for the Institute of Koorie Education will include support for an expansion program including a new building, equipment, lectureships and access and equity scholarships.
The provision of scholarships is an important part of Deakin’s commitment to access and equity. Scholarships enable students who may not otherwise have been able to receive a tertiary education to do so at Deakin University. For many students, leaving home to pursue tertiary studies can be very costly – particularly when the student comes from a rural or regional area. Scholarships are awarded across all the University’s Faculties and Campuses.
