The Centre for Mental Health and Well Being Research (C-MHWBR), based in the Health and Well Being Research Priority Area within the Faculty of Health, Medicine, Nursing and Behavioural Sciences, is unique in that its focus is on addressing issues of improved mental health interventions for people currently excluded from the system of care. This refers to members of the general population, but also to socially disadvantaged and marginalised people. Therefore, although one dimension of the group’s work does focus on mental health and well being within the general population, a large proportion of our research and research training is focused on mental health issues for people outside of the mainstream, those much less likely to access treatment and at risk of chronic and severe mental ill health.
C-MHWBR comprises full members who provide leadership to the Centre, together with associate members, early career researchers, and research support staff. We have a large, high quality research training program that includes higher degree by research (HDR) students. There is an active mentoring system within the Centre that promotes continuing development and upward movement of its developing members.
