Background

 

The World Health Organisation awarded Faculty of Health, Medicine, Nursing and Behavioural Sciences at Deakin University official Collaborating Centre status in 2003.

The WHO Collaborating Centre for Obesity Prevention and Related Research and Training is building evidence base and training programs needed to prevent obesity, especially in children and adolescents, in developed and developing countries.

Major Activities include:

• Support and evaluation for 7 whole-of-community childhood obesity prevention programs
• Assessing the Cost-Effectiveness of obesity interventions (ACE Obesity)
• Cochrane systematic reviews on obesity prevention
• Post-graduate studies and short course professional development in obesity prevention
• Support for international initiatives for obesity prevention through WHO and the International Obesity Taskforce
