Be Active, Eat Well

Be Active, Eat Well logo

Be Active Eat Well is an initiative of and supported by the Department of Human Services (DHS), Victoria.  The Project is based in a small rural town of about 11,000 people in Victoria and has been funded for a period of 3 years commencing in June 2002.

The initial brief from DHS outlined a broad framework to "improve health and wellbeing of individuals and strengthen communities through a coordinated set of initiatives based on healthy eating and physical activity promotion".  The main Primary Care Health Agency was chosen as the auspicing body for the project, whose role is to oversee the implementation of the project.

Be Active Eat Well now has a formal structure which is overseen by a Reference Committee and implemented by a Local Steering Group. This group has progressively evolved and has a strong local community representation. The project is coordinated and driven by the Project Worker. Implementation of the Action Plan has been made possible by the enthusiasm and committment of the Local Steering Group, Committee members, working groups and other key stakeholders and by the union and collaborative approach between sectoral groups.
