Vacant positions within the University are advertised either internally and/or externally. Occasionally recruitment agencies are used for specific positions. All vacant positions are advertised on our website, so keep us book marked for a quick reference for future employment opportunities. Advertisements on our website are linked to the relevant position description which contains the selection criteria. To find out more about a position, applicants should download the position description.
Information on how to apply for Jobs at Deakin can be found at www.deakin.edu.au/hr/employment/apply.php. If you lodge your application online an email acknowledgement will be received. If your application is received by post you will not receive an acknowledgement.
Depending upon the level of the position, reference checks will be undertaken for short listed candidates, prior to interview and/or reference checks will be undertaken on the preferred candidate after interview.
After the closing date, all applications are sent to the relevant area to be short listed. Applicants who are short listed are contacted and invited to attend for interview. This process can take some time to organise as the interview dates and times are dependent on the availability of selection committee members. An interview is usually conducted by a selection committee. The selection committee is made up of representatives from the work area / Faculty or Division and at least one representative who is external to the work area.
Not all situations require a further interview, however the panel may request to meet with an applicant for a second or third time. We encourage applicants to use the opportunity to find out more about Deakin.
Selection recommendations are made by the panel based on the application, the interview and often, referee comments. Once an offer of employment is made and accepted by the preferred candidate, Deakin will contact interviewed applicants who were not successful. Applicants who have not received a request to attend an interview or received further communication within six weeks of the closing date of the vacancy should regard the application as unsuccessful on this occasion.
The Chair of the selection committee must gain approval from the Organisational Head before a verbal offer of employment can be made. On acceptance of any verbal offer and agreement on a commencement date, a written offer of employment will be sent. An acceptance in writing is required before commencing employment at Deakin.
