Online induction

The university-wide On-line Induction Program provides information about Deakin to assist in your understanding of Deakin's goals and strategies and to introduce you to a number of important services, systems, policies and procedures.

New fixed term and continuing staff will be invited via email to commence the induction program, shortly after commencing employment at Deakin. The program is designed for progressive completion over the first three months of employment.

Local induction

Your manager and/or supervisor will provide an introduction to the local work area and the requirements of the position. Should you have any questions during the course of your induction you should discuss these with your supervisor.

Further details and a link to the online induction program can be found at Human Resources Services Division website.

The Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and the Institute of Teaching and Learning run orientation sessions for new academic staff at the beginning of each academic year.

Graduate Certificate of Higher Education

All new level A-D academic staff appointed to continuing teaching positions are required to complete the Graduate Certificate of Higher Education during the probationary period of appointment, unless exempted by reason of equivalent qualifications or extensive tertiary teaching experience. The Graduate Certificate has been developed by the Faculty of Arts and Education. It covers a range of topics relevant to teaching and learning at Deakin, and in higher education more generally, including quality assurance responsibilities of academic staff.

Staff required to complete all or part of the Graduate Certificate are exempt from fees and receive a reduction in other workload while enrolled.

Further details and a course outline can be found at the Graduate Certificate of Higher Education website.
