Business and Law students participate in Google Challenge

Faculty of Business and Law

Students undertaking a unit in online marketing in the Faculty of Business and Law have this year submitted team reports into the 2008 Google Online Marketing Challenge as part of their assessment.

Of the 15 Deakin University teams of five students which competed in the inaugural Challenge, four reached the top 50 semi-finalists in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, while another two teams were acknowledged as submitting good reports.

By participating in the Challenge, students were able to learn how to optimise return on marketing investment for actual client websites using Google’s AdWords (a product that offers pay-per-click advertising). The first assignment took the form of the team’s pre-campaign strategy, while the second assignment consisted of the post-campaign report.

This real-world experience generated a great deal of engagement on Deakin University’s online portal with 80 students accounting for some 2500 posts. The positive comments by students indicated their level of engagement and appreciation of the learning experience involved.

The judging process for the Challenge involved more than 1600 student teams (8000 students) from 47 countries, studying at some 466 institutes of learning across six continents.

You can read about the teams and results on the Challenge website.
