International Representatives Week

Deakin International

Deakin University International Representatives Week was held from 11–16 May 2008, with representatives from 13 countries including China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Latin America, Thailand and Vietnam participating in the event.

The week showcased Deakin's Campuses and unique strengths as well as providing highlights of what living and studying in Victoria has to offer. The week comprised a tour which began at the Warrnambool Campus, moving on to the Geelong Campus at Waurn Ponds and the Geelong Waterfront Campus, concluding at the Melbourne Campus at Burwood. Representatives were shown presentations by all Faculties and met with key Deakin academic and support staff during the week.

Feedback from the participants was very positive with 100 per cent of respondents rating the program very good or excellent. Participants were particularly impressed with interactive Faculty presentations as well as those that provided opportunities to interact with students or to observe students at work.

A final comment from one of the participants sums up the experience as follows:
‘ … if Deakin wanted representatives to see the differences in the Campuses and what it can offer international students, the University has indeed done that. What is apparent is that Deakin is reinventing itself in terms of courses, industry linkages and further enhancing value to students…’
