Burwood Student Village residents get activeDivision of Student LifeA group of motivated and environmentally conscious students living on campus have established a new Burwood Student Village (BSV) Green Group. The group is looking at ways to save power and water, and increase recycling and sustainable practices around the student village. In October, they turned their attention to the area surrounding the residences by organising a Clean Up Gardiner’s Creek Day. Residents cleared recyclables and other rubbish that had accumulated in and along the creek between Station Street and Burwood Highway. By the end of the day 12 huge garbage bags full of rubbish were collected. In another BSV initiative, the Community Club recently participated in fundraising activities for the 2008 Ampersand Walk, a 30 kilometre journey that followed the Capital City track. Along with other fundraising activities during the day, the 30 sponsored walkers from BSV raised over $2000 which will be donated to the Edmund Rice camps – recreational camps run for underprivileged kids.
