Deakin staff recognised at ALTC awards

Five Deakin University staff members have been awarded Citations for outstanding contributions to student learning at the Australian Learning and Teaching Council Award Ceremony.
Each recipient receives $10,000 for their contribution to student learning. The recipients are:
- Mr Abdel-Hakeem Kasem, Faculty of Arts and Education
For the development of innovative partnerships and approaches to supporting the expansion of Australian and in-country learning for students in Arabic language and culture.
- Ms Colleen Murrell, Faculty of Arts and Education
For fusing creative student learning to industry best practice through the design of authentic and engaging curricula and relevant assessment tasks in journalism.
- Ms Karen Le Rossignol, Faculty of Arts and Education
For creative and interactive virtual world resources combined with teaching strategies that encourage students to engage in contextualised learning in undergraduate and postgraduate writing programs.
- Mrs Michelle Cyganowski, Faculty of Science and Technology
For inspiring students in mathematics and statistics through engaging teaching approaches that enhance their learning experience and outcomes.
- Dr Jan West, Faculty of Science and Technology
For providing students every opportunity to achieve and reach their academic potential through communication and fun, relevant interactive learning methods for physiology.
Deakin University Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor John Rosenberg, said the awards were testament to Deakin's outstanding level of teaching.
‘We would like to congratulate these five staff members on this outstanding achievement,’ Professor Rosenberg said.
‘We are very proud of they way in which our staff fulfil Deakin's mission of being relevant, innovative and responsive.’
