Bike buddy initiative

TravelSmart

Cycling to Uni for the first time can be more pleasant and more likely to happen when you have someone to share the ride with.

TravelSmart convenors are currently in the process of training mentors for the bike buddy program, which is expected to begin from September 2008.

Upon registering your interest in the program, you will be matched with a bike buddy who is an experienced cyclist familiar with the local area.

A bike buddy can help you with a number of areas including:

  • planning a good route from home to work
  • providing tips for riding in traffic
  • fixing a flat tyre
  • setting up your bike for commuting, including what to wear and how to carry your laptop or books
  • any other questions you may have on the practicalities of cycling to the Melbourne Campus at Burwood.

A bike buddy will be happy to do a test ride with you to make sure you are comfortable with the route, and will ride with you on your first trip to work.

If you are interested in a bike buddy or would like more information, please register your interest at travelsmart@deakin.edu.au (including your name, email address and contact phone number) and a TravelSmart convenor will contact you shortly.
