The research grants unit
The research grants unit is located on Level
C of the Fred Jevons Building , Geelong Campus and on the ground floor of Building
EA, Elgar Road.
The unit is a section within the Research Services Division,
within the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) - the DVC(R) is responsible
for the management of research at Deakin.. The Executive Officer (Grants) is
responsible to the Director, Research Services Division, for the administration of the
research grants unit.
The research grants unit
- maintains a list of funding agencies;
- issues application forms and guidelines on behalf of funding agencies (where
these are not available via the internet);
- advises on the guidelines provided by the funding agencies, to ensure that
Deakin requirements are understood and complied with by research grant applicants;
- assists with the preparation of applications, including advice on budget
preparation and the presentation of applications;
- submits applications to funding agencies after approval by the DVC(R);
- enters applications onto the research applications database;
- liaises with the University Solicitor to ensure that contract conditions
are acceptable to researchers and Deakin;
- arranges for grants to be accepted on behalf of Deakin;
- makes the necessary administrative arrangements for accounts to be opened
by the appropriate Finance Officer;
- enters the outcome of applications onto the research applications database;
- co-ordinates communication between funding agencies, applicants and grantees;
- acts on behalf of the funding agencies and Deakin to ensure that projects
are undertaken in accordance with the grant conditions and University policy;
- administers postdoctoral research fellowships awarded by external funding
agencies;
- provides secretarial and administrative support for the assessment and
administration of the Deakin Central Research Grant Scheme.
