Access to current and future funding opportunities is provided via Deakin's subscription to the Community of Science Funding Opportunities Database. This is a comprehensive database of international and Australian funding opportunities, and includes opportunities in all academic discipline areas. Many of the international schemes are open to Australian researchers, and most Australian schemes are included.
Any Deakin staff member or postgraduate student with an expertise profile on COS can access this database from any internet connected computer in the world via their own web page (termed 'workbench'). Staff who do not have a profile can access the database from any Deakin networked computer. As this service is implemented further information will be provided below and assistance can be obtained by emailing Wendi Bridge.
*Deakin's subscription to the Community of Science Funding Opportunities database and Directory of Expertise is now operational and Deakin staff may access this on the COS web site.
The Research Services Division has already assembled details for many Deakin researchers and established basic profiles on the COS system. The majority of research staff will consequently receive an email advice providing a username and password to enable them to set up funding email alerts and complete an expertise profile. The profile can be linked to your own homepage (or your particular entry on the regularly updated publications list on the Research Services Division website which lists publications and grants). Staff having a username and password can also access information via their own webpage on the COS system (termed a Workbench) when accessing the internet through a provider other than Deakin. Any staff member using a Deakin workstation can access funding information on COS whether or not they have a username and password but registering a profile (which individual staff members can do via this url: http://registration.cos.com/cos/basic.html) provides additional utility in terms of automated emails and external access.
Staff with a profile registered within the COS Expertise database have the opportunity to add details of their publications and grants and maintain these, or enter a link to the annually updated details maintained by the Research Services Division (indexed at search for researcher output). An individual's details can be directly linked by noting the url for their entry on the Research Services Division website. This can be located by moving to the particular entry from the index and copying the url shown in the browser. For example, for Professor Peter Hodgson the url identified in this way would be: http://www.deakin.edu/research/admin/pubs/reports/database/dynamic/output/person/person.php?person_code=hodgspe. This entry will be updated annually.
