Terrestrial and Landscape Ecology

Australiaís flora and fauna, and the processes that influence their distribution and abundance, form a fascinating and challenging area of research.  The need for such knowledge is pressing, given the extent and rate of change occurring to terrestrial environments in Australia and throughout the world. In this broad research group, including some 14 academic staff, 2 research fellows, and more than 20 PhD students, we carry out a wide range of projects on the ecology of individual species and assemblages, disturbance processes, the consequences of landscape change, and social dimensions of environmental management.

Our goal is to carry out high quality research that is relevant to applied conservation and land management.  Accordingly, we work in partnership with national and state agencies such as Parks Victoria, the Department of Sustainability and Environment, Catchment Management Authorities, and local government.
