Meeting students face-to-face gives you the opportunity to grow your organisations profile and give a friendly face to your company, it also gives you the chance to identify potential candidates from the students you meet. At Deakin University we endeaver to cater to the employers needs and offer a number of different ways for you to get on-campus and mingling with our students.
The big change in 2009 is that Deakin University will be holding "Career Weeks" throughout the year for each faculty. This will mean you will have more opportunities to connect with our students, and you will be able to modify your on-campus or online promotion to fit with the faculty we are concentrating on. Below are the range of on-campus promotional opportunities that will be offered in 2009.

Careers fairs are run on the Burwood campus in March and August to coincide with the annual graduate and vacation work recruitment periods. These fairs are industry-targeted events, where employers with graduate recruitment and vacation work intakes can meet with students from the specific courses and disciplines required. The Geelong Campus also runs a targeted event for engineering employers in March. More information is available on our fairs page. 2009 Fairs

Deakin invites graduate employers on campus to run workshops alongside our careers staff, on a wide range of topics, which in the past have included resumes, online applications, the vacation / graduate recruitment process, and interview skills. These workshops take place throughout the year, however we market them heavily during our concentrated programs in March and August. This is a sensational opportunity for employers to get in front of the students for 1 hour, and to value add to your marketing by giving the students tips from your side of the recruitment table. Once our event timetables are set, we will promote the availability of these workshops via this website and through our Careers and Employment Resource Centre... make sure you come back to check out what is available! |

These sessions are targeted at particular courses and offer students the chance to hear from people working in their industry. We invite speakers from different areas of a particular industry to come on-campus and share with relevant student cohorts their career experiences. The aim of these sessions is to motivate and encourage students to begin thinking about life after university and what they should be focusing on now, to increase their employability when they graduate. The speakers are asked about:

Informal gatherings with a small group of students. Students simply drop in for a chat, ask questions they have about the recruitment process, organisation, graduate roles or industry sector. There are a small number of the Employer Chats available during our Graduate Week 16 - 20 March, and the various Career Weeks we will be offering during 2009. We offer them firstly to the employers who put their hand up to co-host a career workshop, however please contact us if you would like to express your interest in holding an Employer Chat during the either the Graduate Week or one of the Faculty focused Career Weeks. There is no cost to get involved in an Employer Chat, and we recommend the format to be a discussion with the students rather than a formal presentation. Please contact Belinda Salvatico on 03 5227 1036 or belinda.salvatico@deakin.edu.au for more information. |
