Promotional Opportunities

The key to connecting with the right graduates is by getting your brand out on campus in a number of different ways. Deakin University understands this, and provides employers with the opportunity to use a variety of mediums to raise your profile - to ensure you are at the forefront of the students' minds come application time. The promotional material below is available online for our students, and guarantees your message is getting out to the masses rather than just the students who can get on-campus to attend fairs, workshops etc.

Please note that the majority of the below promotional opportunities are only available at certain times of the year, and all of them are on a first-come-first-served basis. Please contact the Jobshop for information on the 2009 student numbers.

Electronic Postcards

Email is the best way to contact students, but it is important that the message is interesting and exciting. Imagery has a greater impact than text, and it allows you to keep the consistency of your branding intact.

Electronic Postcards are a great way to encourage students to

  • find out more about your company,
  • apply for the vacancy you are promoting and
  • to push your promotional images to the forefront of the students minds

We have two different options available with the Electronic Postcards:

YOU develop the images: Many employers ask their marketing department to develop the front and back images that we use as your Electronic Postcard. The benefit of this is that you are guaranteed the images will match your current marketing, and it gives you more freedom to be creative. If you decide to use this option, the image must be around 800pixels x 400pixels (or if not these exact measurements, a postcard shape). The cost of this service, where YOU develop the images is $330 for the first cohort of students, and $110 for each additional cohort.

JOBSHOP develop the images: The Jobshop team have developed many Electronic Postcards in the past, but please note that we are not graphic designers! If you decide to use this option when organising your Electronic Postcard, we will need you to send us any images, logos and text that you would like to see in the postcard. We will develop a postcard that we feel suits your needs, and forward it to you for any changes or for approval. The cost of this service is $440 for the first cohort of students, and $110 for each additional cohort.

This service is limited to the promotion of employment opportunities and recruitment deadlines, and is sent only to the cohort(s) you seek to recruit (no 'all students' emails).

Grad Fact Files / Vac Fact Files

These are information sheets on various aspects of the graduate and vacation recruitment processes. Employers have the opportunity to put their logos and branding on these, with topic-related information and a quote from a recent graduate working at your organisation.

The resources will be available to students on the Jobshop and Careers websites, and will be handed out at the Graduate Careers Fair, Vacation Work Fair and the various career skills workshops offered to students at these peak times. The Grad Fact Files will also be promoted heavily by the Graduate Starter Pack that is sent out to final year commerce, engineering and IT students homes in February 2009. As a bonus all employers that sponsor the Grad Fact File will have their logos on the Graduate Starter Pack.

Limited to two A4 pages, these resources will be able to be printed out by students as a handy resource to assist them as they go through the application process and/or attend events.

Grad Fact Files that are available for March 2009:

  • What do employers look for?
  • Make a great first impression
  • Make the most of careers fairs
  • How do I address key selection criteria?
  • Build a winning resume
  • Apply online with confidence
  • Interview well
  • Assessment centres
  • Accepting/rejecting offers
  • Options for international students

The Fact Files had the following average web hits during their peak promotional time. Please note that this average does not include the hundreds of hard copies printed out and distributed at the various events:

Grad Fact File in March 2008 = 337 average web hits per fact file.
Vac Fact File in August 2008 = 211 average web hits per fact file.

The cost of a Grad / Vac Fact File is $220. For more information, contact Nicola Corner on 03 9244 6250 or nicola.corner@deakin.edu.au

Sneak Peeks

Recent student surveys revealed that many students had already decided who they wanted to meet at career fairs before attending. Therefore, making sure you are one of the chosen few is vitally important! Getting your brand out to students in different ways helps reinforce your message, and will encourage students to seek you out at Deakin's careers fairs.

The 'Sneak Peek' is an online advertising feature, and are only available in the lead up to our two major careers fair Graduate Careers Fair (March) and the Vacation Work Fair (August). The Sneak Peeks give employers the chance to provide students with more information about your organisation, including your culture, recruitment information and who you are looking to recruit. We recommend you use a successful graduate and/or a HR representative in the Sneak Peek, as this is a great way to personalise your recruitment material and the students can look out for those representatives at the career fairs.

The Sneak Peeks will be on both the Jobshop and Careers websites, as part of a feature promoting the fairs, plus we will heavily market them in all of the email and hard copy promotion. With the Jobshop website averaging 30,000 hits per week, this is great opportunity for exposure, and not only to our on campus students, but also to students studying on our rural campuses, off campus and those who just cannot get to the career fair to chat to you in person.

The cost of the Sneak Peek is $330. If you are interested in taking up this promotional opportunity please contact Belinda Salvatico for an Employer Profile Form at 5227 1036 or email belinda.salvatico@deakin.edu.au.

Banner Advertising

The Jobshop website is one of the most highly viewed sites within the Deakin University online space, with an average of over 30,000 hits per week on our site alone. This provides employers with a great opportunity to capture student attention with a banner advertisement on such a high traffic site. The banners can be located in two areas - either the student homepage or a jobs listings page (depending on the time of year, this could be graduate listings or vacation work listings). Employers are limited to one at a time and on a weekly basis. Banner size should be no larger than 360 x 100 pixels, saved out at 72dpi, and must either be in .gif or .jpg format. The cost of this option is $440 (includes GST) per week during busy recruitment periods (March/August) or $220 (includes GST) per week outside of these times.
