Placements and experiential learning

The opportunity for placement and experiential learning is important at Deakin and part of what makes it a responsive and relevant learning experience.

Counselling supports this aspect of learning by offering support to students and staff in this process.

We are able to run pre placement workshops that help prepare the student for the work experience, covering communication, being assertive, planning and goal setting and exploring the student’s personal expectations and issues.

We are able to offer debriefing sessions for groups after the placement.

Similarly, we are available as consultants to support staff in planning and preparing programs for their students.

It can be costly for a student to participate in a placement or experiential component of their study. Remember to factor this in and give students plenty of warning and accurate information about the costs involved.
