Ms Lin Martin BSc (First Class Honours), MSc, Dip.Comp.Sc, University of Adelaide

Lin Martin commenced as Deakin's Vice-President (Academic and Information Services) on March 7, 2005.

In November 2005, she also assumed the role of Council Secretary and her position was changed to Vice-President and Council Secretary. Her portfolio includes responsibility for:

Prior to taking up this role, Lin Martin was the Vice-Principal and Academic Registrar at the University of Melbourne, a position she held from September, 2001. Lin Martin’s major responsibility was the overall leadership and management of the University’s student programs and academic administration including international marketing and recruitment activities. She has an impressive knowledge of the Australian higher education sector as is evidenced by her senior roles in some of Australia's leading universities. Prior to commencing at the University of Melbourne, Lin Martin was the Director, Planning at the University of New South Wales (1999-2001); Director, Strategic and Financial Planning at RMIT, in which she was responsible for enrolment and financial planning and the financial operations of the University (1996-1999); and was Academic Registrar at Flinders University (1992-1995). During her time at Flinders, she wrote a monograph on General and Equity Performance Indicators in Higher Education which is still used nationally by the Government to monitor performance and allocate funds for equity performance in the higher education sector. As a result of her experience, Lin Martin was appointed as policy advisor to the Higher Education Council of Australia (1995-1996) - a body advising the then Minister on higher education policy issues.

Lin Martin is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is an elected member of the CAVAL Board.

She has depth and breadth of experience in higher education policy development; strategic and financial planning; academic and financial administration, including enrolment and business planning; information systems management; and academic quality assurance.

As the architect of the national equity performance indicators and a contributor to the national equity strategy for Australian universities, Lin Martin's long term interest and commitment to equity and access in higher education aligns with Deakin's core commitments.
